Overview

The Ceramic Society of Japan (CerSJ) awards the title of CerSJ Fellow (International) on individuals residing outside Japan who have made outstanding contributions to the development of ceramic science and technology through academic research, industrial innovation, education, or international collaboration. This title honors those who have significantly contributed to the advancement of the ceramic community, particularly in connection with CerSJ.
The nomination process for this award began in FY 2025*.

*The call for nominations for FY2025 has closed, and the selection process is currently in progress.

Eligibility

  • Nominees must primarily reside outside Japan.

  • Nominees should not be current Honorary Members of CerSJ.

  • Nominees must have demonstrated remarkable contributions to the development of ceramic field and CerSJ through academic research, industrial technology development, educational activities, or international exchanges.

  • Nominees are expected to continue their contribution to CerSJ through international exchanges after receiving the award.

**Additional Notes:

    • Non-members of CerSJ are also eligible for nomination.

    • Individuals who already hold the title of “CerSJ Fellow” are not eligible for this award.

Nominators

Each nomination must be submitted by one of the following:

  • A current CerSJ Fellow or Honorary Member

  • A current chairperson of a CerSJ branch, division or committee

  • A past chairperson of the International Exchange Committee

    Number of Recipients

    A small number of recipients are selected each fiscal year.
    In principle, only one individual is awarded per year.

    Award Ceremony, Award Lecture, and Invited Paper

    • The award ceremony will be held at either the CerSJ Annual Meeting or international conferences organized by CerSJ (e.g., the 11th International Congress on Ceramics [ICC11], scheduled for September 2026).

    • Awardees will be invited to deliver an award lecture at the event.

    • Following deliberation by the Editorial Committee, awardees may also be invited to contribute a paper to JCS-JAPAN.

    **Additional Notes:

      • CerSJ will cover the awardee’s travel and accommodation expenses for participation in the award ceremony and lecture.

      • If the invited paper is accepted, the publication fee will also be borne by CerSJ.

    Important Notes

    • All nominations will first be reviewed by the International Fellow Nomination Committee, which may recommend selected candidates to the Selection Committee for final review.

    • In principle, submitted nominations will remain under consideration by the Nomination Committee for up to five years.

    • Once a candidate is recommended to the Selection Committee, the nominator will be asked to:

      • confirm the nominee’s intention to accept the award (prior consent from the nominee is not required at the time of nomination), and
      • provide additional documentation as requested.
